FAQ / Policies
What can I expect?
- Before choreography can be applied to sword work, the focus at SXP events is always based in the correct application of sword movement, footwork, measure (distancing) and targeting that applies to any martial sword work. Our Academy events focus more on technique and application whereas our Elite events include a filmed component for participants.

What style of sword work is taught?
We don’t teach a style. We teach, targeting, footwork, measure (distance) angulations, some Asian and western guard positions, sometimes with and sometimes without partner work included. Our philosophy is that styles can be taught as long as you have the techniques to support them. All of which can be used for tournaments, competition or film work.
Adrian has been asked many times whether what he teaches is just for film. His answer is “if you don’t know the proper technique you won’t look good on film no matter what you do.”
What should I wear?
Please wear clothes you feel comfortable moving in, along with close-toed athletic shoes. We recommend clothing similar to what you would wear to the gym, allowing for freedom of movement!
Is prior sword training or athletic experience required?
No prior sword training or athletic experience is needed!
Whether you’re interested in martial arts, learning how fight scenes are choreographed for film, the Highlander experience, taking a class with Adrian Paul, or building camaraderie with fellow participants, the Sword Experience is for you!
The Sword Experience is designed for participants of all experience levels, with staff guiding you through the workshop step by step – no experience needed.
