One of the most fun exercises during the Sword Experience events, is a drill Adrian created called Sticky Swords, whereby two people cross swords and cannot disengage with the aim of gently tagging their opponent on the hands, legs or any exposed area. What most people tend to do is push forward and physically try to force the point. But that is not the aim of the drill. The aim is to find where you opponents energy is moving and for you to find an opening to gain you point with the least effort. This helps in sparring or dueling, where a fighter must observe and interpret subtle cues from their opponent’s stance, grip, and movement, sharpening concentration and enhancing decision-making at speed.

Meditation in Motion

At our longer events Adrian sometimes creates a series of movements for people to practice, a sword kata per se. Many martial artists compare sword katas to meditation, whereby the repetitive, controlled movements of kata creates a calming, mindful state that improves overall concentration.
